What to expect

When are our Worship Services?

September – mid June, we offer one services each Sunday:  9:45am. During the summer months, we hold one service at 9:45am.  You should expect to arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled.

How are our non-summer Worship Services different?

Sunday at 9:45am:  This a traditional service that includes a choir, childcare and Sunday school.  The entire family begins worship in the sanctuary, with the children leaving after the offering.  You can expect a children’s sermon, an anthem, children’s choir, hymns accompanied by an organ, prayer, and a sermon.

Where do I park?

Parking for services at Westbrook Congregational may be found along Norris Ave, around the Town Green, or across Route 1 behind the Fire Department.  Entrances to the sanctuary may be found on the Route 1 side of the building.  Please be sure to use the crosswalks when crossing Essex Road or Route 1.

What happens during Sunday worship service?

As you enter the church, a friendly usher will greet you and give you a bulletin to guide you through the service.   You can pick up an assisted listening device or large-print bulleting before you are seated.

All of our services feature reading, a children’s message, preaching, prayer, and music.    At times, you will be invited to stand, sing, pray, be in silence, or read responsively.

Communion is held the first Sunday of the month in the sanctuary.  Communion is served to the congregants while seated.  Gluten free bread is served in a separate container in the middle of the bread plate.

Do you offer childcare or Sunday school?

Childcare is available during our Sunday service at 9:45 a.m.   Sunday School programs are offered on Sundays for children in preschool through 8th grade.  All grades begin the service with their families in the sanctuary.  Children leave the sanctuary for the classrooms after the first verse of the hymn following the offering.  For the younger children (preschool through 1st grade), parents must accompany the children to the classroom and pick them up in the classroom at 11:30 following the service.

What should I wear?

Some people come dressed in their Sunday best. Others dress more casually. Either way, we believe that God cares more about the state of our hearts than the state of our attire, and encourage you to dress the way that feels most appropriate to you.

How long do services last?

The service lasts about an hour.  The Sunday school program lasts until 11:30am to allow ample classroom time for the children and time for parents to have a cup of coffee and a snack.

Is there a coffee  or fellowship time after church?

After each worship service, Fellowship Hall is open for a time of fellowship and refreshment. We invite you to stick around for a snack or beverage, strike up a conversation, and make some new friends!

Is the church handicap accessible?

Yes.   Handicap parking is available at the top of Norris Ave.  To avoid stairs, you must enter the church from Norris Ave away from Route 1.  Follow the signs inside through Fellowship Hall to the Sanctuary.
